West Valley School District is seeking highly flexible and collaborative candidates to join our District as Core Substitute Teachers.
Core Substitutes are hired to work minimum hours daily and meet eligibility requirements to be benefit-eligible positions.

During the 2023-24 school year, this position will be guaranteed daily work on student learning days.
Core Substitutes will receive the daily rate of pay for each day worked.
BENEFITS
Core substitute teachers are committing to an anticipated 180 days of work during the school year and will be benefit-eligible on the first day of the month following the start date.
SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT
Under the direction and supervision of the building principal or designee, this teaching position will substitute for regular district teachers by planning instruction, teaching, motivating, inspiring, and assessing students in the grade/subject assigned.
Each Permanent Substitute Teacher will have a primary site assignment, however, these staff may be reassigned based on District-wide substitute needs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provide clear and intentional focus on subject matter content and curriculum using established content standards and available resources and technology.
Use effective teaching practices by helping students effectively interact with new knowledge, practice and deepen knowledge, and engage in cognitively complex tasks.
Use effective teaching practices including asking questions of students, probing incorrect answers of students, and noticing when students are not engaged.
Foster and manage a safe, positive learning environment.
Be responsible for constructive classroom management and environment.
Follow lesson plans and instructional materials as provided.
Translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
Maintain appropriate student records.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Washington State teaching certificate, no later than the first day of substitute teaching, with appropriate endorsements as required by law and regulations.
Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance.
Valid Washington State driver’s license or evidence of mobility.
Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later).
I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act.
Completion of all district-required training within thirty (30) calendar days from hire date.

Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills with students, staff, administrators, and parents/guardians.
Training and/or experience with technology integrating technology into planning, teaching and learning, and record-keeping skills.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Substitute positions are employed as on-call positions and paid for hours worked.
Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be completed before employment commences.
The successful candidate for this position must complete a fingerprinted background check with the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Employment is contingent upon clearance of the background check.
