CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Prepares for and instructs a full range of transfer-level classes in the discipline of History, with an emphasis on U.
S.
History, options to teach Western Civilization, World History or other history courses as needed.
Course scheduling will be based on student and program needs.
Prepares and instructs classes on-ground, online, or in other flexible modalities.
Collaborates with discipline faculty to evaluate, revise and develop History curriculum that cultivates the mastery of course content and learning objectives through an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion perspective.
Works collaboratively with diverse colleagues, students, dual enrollment programs (ex.
, Running Start, On-Track Academy, Gateway to College, etc.
) and community members.
Is committed to serving a socially and culturally diverse student population and advancing diversity, promoting equity, and preparing students to live responsibly in an increasingly global civilization.
Provides availability and accessibility to students for the purpose of academic advising and support, in a manner appropriate to meet student needs and provide timely and responsive communication.
Leverages learning and classroom technologies to produce engaging, quality instruction.
Participates in district, division, department or general faculty meetings; in-service training; curriculum development; academic consulting; workshops or seminars; service on district or college councils or committees, or other activities within the scope of the position.
Complies with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities.
Follows established procedures in areas such as printing, turning in grades, bookstore orders, office support, student financial aid requirements, safety and health issues and related administrative processes.
Engages colleagues and students in a professional and mutually respectful manner.
Supports and advances the CCS strategic plan, and performs other duties as assigned.
In addition, faculty may: Instruct courses in related disciplines based upon individual qualifications and expertise.
Supervise paraprofessional employees or direct work of assigned work-study students.
Advise student clubs or associations.
COMPETENCIES & OTHER REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS An earned Master’s degree in History from an accredited institution, or a Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
Graduate course work in US History.
Teaching experience equivalent to one to two academic years (such as graduate teaching assistantship, professional workshops, tutoring, high school teaching, etc.
) Willingness and ability to teach or develop History courses through an Equity, Diversity, Inclusion perspective.
Demonstrated commitment to pursuing professional development and personal growth in and out of the classroom.
Acceptance of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at all times.
Acceptance of and willingness to support the role that community colleges serve in higher education, and specifically the mission, values, goals and objectives of the Community Colleges of Spokane.
Ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and goals of the institution and the community/technical college system.
A demonstrated understanding of and value for the contributions that a diverse workforce can make to the success of both the organization and the students we serve.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS The following competencies are not necessary for application, but having one or more of these could increase a candidate’s success: Graduate coursework in a related field (such as African-American Studies, Native American Studies, Canadian History, History of Asia, History of Great Britain or any other regional history, etc.

Demonstrated experience incorporating diverse teaching strategies including the use of instructional technology for in person, hybrid and online courses.
Demonstrated success teaching a diverse student population.
Three or more years of teaching experience.
Community college teaching experience.
Demonstrated professional contributions to the discipline such as leadership in a professional association, conference presentations, and/or publications.
Ph.
D.
in History, or in a closely related field of study from an accredited institution.
Graduate coursework in U.
S.
History.
Graduate coursework in Western Civilization or World History.
Graduate coursework in a related field (such as African-American Studies, Native American Studies, Canadian History, History of Asia, History of Great Britain or any other regional history).
CONDITIONS/TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT This is a full-time, tenure-track position with an entry level base salary (for a 175-day academic year contract) of $64,303 - $ 98,735/ year.
Future advancement in base salary, up to the current maximum of $98,735, is based upon a combination of years of service accrued at our college and professional development activity.
Annual salary is comprised of base salary plus any combination of academic year overload contracts, summer effort contracts, project stipends, student club advising stipends, and/or department chair program lead faculty stipends consistent with the provisions of the current collective bargaining agreement between CCS and the Association for Higher Education (AHE).
TOTAL COMPENSATION: $64,303 - $98,735.
Total compensation is an estimate based upon adding the following amounts together:: Base compensation, plus Current employer-paid health and related benefit contribution rates, plus Click here for a full list of benefits.

The actual total will vary depending upon each employee's enrollment choices.

This is an absolute condition of employment.
An offer of employment will not carry with it any responsibility or obligation on the part of the district to sponsor an H1-B visa.
In addition, the Community Colleges of Spokane maintains a drug-free work environment and prohibits all smoking in the college buildings and state-owned vehicles.
Must be able to successfully work in and promote a multicultural work and education environment.
