POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
The Swim Coach will apply their mastery of swimming techniques to create an engaging team environment with emphasis on safety, fun, and skill progression.
The Swim Coach will build confidence of participants in the swim program, create lasting relationships with swimmers and families, and encourage participants to compete in local swim meets to create lasting memories.
Looking for individuals with availability for current practice schedule, which runs Monday-Thursday between the hours of 5:00 PM - 7:30 PM.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Prepare and conduct practice sessions based on strengths, weaknesses, and interests of athletes, and increase swimmers’ confidence and mastery of skills and techniques
Attend and assist in administration of swim meets, encouraging participants before, during, and after their events
Maintain records of attendance, swim meet information, and registration, ensuring that all participants have paid for events
Communicate regularly with parents about swimmer progress, achievements, and upcoming events
Monitor use of athletic equipment to ensure safe and proper use
Knows and reviews all safety, emergency, and child abuse prevention policies and procedures, responding to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA protocol
QUALIFICATIONS:
Certifications in Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches (or equivalent), YSL or WSI, and completion of YMCA program-specific trainings upon hire
American Red Cross Lifeguarding and Administering Emergency Oxygen certifications preferred
At least 18 years of age
Six months or two seasons of related experience in related aquatic programming
Able to demonstrate technically correct swimming techniques

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, move around on the pool deck, and demonstrate swimming skills involving bending arms, legs, and torso.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move equipment for practices and swim meets.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision to monitor swimmer skills and abilities.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
