JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: *Must be at least 16* Department Clean-Up (Courtesy Clerk) JOB DESCRIPTION: As a primary contact for Safeway customers, the Courtesy Clerk provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service.
The Department Clean-Up Clerks primary job is to clean behind the counter production areas of the bakery and meat department, and in some cases, other areas in retail grocery store.
Sweeps, mops, wipes down walls and work surfaces.
Cleans meat cutting equipment.
May also function as a Courtesy Clerk.
JOB DUTIES: Safeway Department Clean-Up Clerk employees are generally responsible for completing the following job duties: 1.
Provide customer service as currently defined by the employer within the scope of the position and within company policy.
2.
Empty trash cans into trash compactor and operate compactor.
3.
Dissemble meat cutting equipment such as grinders, band saws, slicers, and clean and disinfect component parts.
4.
Remove anti-fatigue mats and clean with hose.
5.
Sweep, mop, and wipe down work surfaces.
6.
Bleach cutting boards, wash trays, racks etc.
7.
May operate cardboard bailer.
8.
Other duties as assigned.
JOB RELATED QUALIFICATIONS: 1.
Ability to follow company customer service procedures.
Demonstrated prior customer service skills or related experience.
2.
Ability to interact with customers and co-workers.
3.
Ability to understand and follow directions.
4.
Ability to work independently.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None PERMITS/LICENSES: Varies depending on store location and state/county requirements.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: %Inside: 90% %Outside: 10% Temperature Extremes: Varies depending on store location.
Chemicals: Frequent (detergents, glass cleaners, and disinfectants), may wear gloves.
MACHINES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT: mops, brooms, mop buckets, hose, mixer, hand truck, six-wheeled cart, box cutter, pens and pencils, spray bottle, rags, telephone/intercom, grocery cart, paper and plastic bags, \*power pallet jack, \*big joe, \*bailer, \*trash compactor \*Department Clean-Up Clerk must meet age requirement to operate.

Upper Extremity: Constant handling/grasping when manipulating mops, brooms, buckets, machine parts, rags, and spray bottles.
Occasional repetitive motion when moping.
Seldom fine finger manipulation when disassembling machines.
Vision: To identify areas needing cleaning and to move quickly and safely through crowded back areas of a retail store.
Hearing: To obtain instructions and information from other employees.
