*Position Summary:* The Aquatic Specialist will be responsible for the oversight and operations of swim lessons and aquatic special events.
In addition to the duties of each aquatic area, this position will assist in general aquatic administration, scheduling, programming, swim instruction, and staff oversight.
*Duties and Responsibilities:* * Provide direct oversight, training, and scheduling of swim instructor staff.
* Create, coordinate, assist and provide direct oversight of aquatic programming including:Aquatic Swim Instructional programs Aquatic Special Events Plan and manage 3rd Grade Swim programCorrespondence and scheduling with schools Volunteer recruitment and scheduling Teaching 3GS classes as necessary * Coordinate and maintain a physical deck presence during programmed and peak use times, which may include nights and weekends for aquatic lessons, special events, and competitive events.
* May be required to instruct, coach, or lifeguard aquatic programs as needed, using sound aquatic principles for beginner through advanced levels.
* Swim meet set-up, management, and tear-down for swim meets and competitive events.
* Assist the Aquatic Manager in the development of new aquatic programs.
* Evaluate programs to ensure that they meet the needs of the patrons and the community.
* Prepare and complete various forms, reports, correspondence, training reports/records, purchase orders, budget documents, statistical data, aquatic reports, surveys, class registration forms, progress reports, policies, procedures, charts, or other documents.
* Administrative duties include: preparing swim class schedule, scheduling Instructors, reviewing and approving timesheets, preparing Instructor training materials, overseeing class registrations and the online calendar.
Frequent data entry into RMS and SharePoint for all aquatic programming and special events.
* Establish and maintain effective means of communication for staff, members, and coaches.
* Monitor aquatic inventory and ensure availability of adequate material to conduct programming.
Initiate orders with the Aquatic Manager for new or replacement materials.
* Provide great customer service to the community.
See that all customers, clients, and members are given prompt and courteous service through prompt responses to voicemails, emails.
* Considerately and patiently enforce RJKCCC rules to provide a safe environment for all members, visitors, and employees.
Help Lifeguards caution swimmers regarding unsafe areas and behaviors; and help maintain order in swimming areas.
* Critique and give feedback to participants regarding their work and performance level.
* Evaluate Swim Instructors regularly to ensure consistent quality of instruction and customer care.
* Conduct regular meetings, in-services, and training with Swim Instructors.
* Critique and give sound feedback to Swim Instructors to maintain high standards of aquatic instruction.
* Ability to speak and communicate before both small and large groups of people with poise and enthusiasm.
* Knowledge of safety precautions needed and ability to ensure compliance/ adherence by all class members.
* Other duties as required.
*General Qualifications and Proficiencies:* * Must be at least 21 years of age.
* Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience and 2+ years of related experience as a swim instructor, aquatic coach, and/or aquatic group exercise instructor.
* Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
* Must be able to work varied shifts including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
* Experience working with the public in a front facing capacity using effective communication skills.
* Must be proficient at swimming all four competitive strokes with correct form.
* Demonstrate the ability to relate positively and energetically with staff, clients, members, and customers.
Ability to be self-motivated, work independently, and in a team environment.
* Must have prior to start of employment, unless otherwise noted, and must maintain current certifications in the following:American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED certification within 90 days of hire.
American Red Cross Oxygen Administration certification within 90 days of hire.
American Red Cross Blood Borne Pathogens within 90 days of hire.
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification within 1-year from hire.
* American Red Cross Lifeguard certification highly desirable.
* Training or certification in Adaptive Swim Recreation is highly desirable.
* Must have strong organizational skills and abilities with a strong attention to detail.
* Must maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.
* Must have proficiency in multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.
* Must have a working knowledge and ability to operate a computer and Microsoft Office Suite software.
* Must be able to function effectively with minimal or no supervision.
* Must be able to demonstrate various skills in the specified areas of instruction.
* Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department as well as The Salvation Army.
* Have a philosophy of education and management that is consistent with that of the Kroc Center and The Salvation Army.
* Have the ability to work with children, adults, and other staff in a capacity of leadership, counseling and education.
*Physical Requirements:* * Ability to demonstrate all four competitive strokes and racing starts with proficient form.
* Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
* Ability to grasp, push, pull objects and reach overhead.
* Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs.
* Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of all aquatics areas.
