Proposed Rank/Hiring Title Associate or Full Professor, Biomedical Engineering Department Biomedical Engineering Proposed Hiring Contract Type Tenure Track Non-Tenure Track End Date Appointment Percent 100% Months per Year 9 months Job Summary The School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track or tenured faculty position at the level of Associate or Full Professor beginning Fall 2024.
The successful applicant will lead SEAS’ new Department of Biomedical Engineering as its founding chair and will be responsible for implementing its new undergraduate degree program beginning Fall 2024.
Aside from managing the department, administrative duties will include refining the curriculum, hiring faculty to build the department, arranging and managing faculty joint appointments with other Gonzaga departments both within and outside of SEAS (e.
g.
, School of Health Sciences), guiding the program through ABET-accreditation, and other administrative duties as required.
They would be expected to leverage the University of Washington School of Medicine – Gonzaga University Health Partnership medical school program which is located on the Gonzaga campus (for additional information, see https://www.

The new biomedical engineering program will be joining the school’s other ABET-accredited undergraduate programs in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, and Civil Engineering, in Engineering Management, and in Computer Science.

Candidates must have a Ph.
D.
in Biomedical Engineering or in a closely related technical discipline.
The areas of expertise are open, encompassing all research areas of the biomedical engineering field, and may be experimental, computational, and/or theoretical.
Aside from administrative duties, the candidate will be expected to: 1) develop and maintain an active research program with outstanding scholarship, 2) demonstrate excellence in teaching, including equity minded teaching, 3) mentor undergraduate students including students from traditionally underrepresented and underserved communities, and 4) provide service to the institution as an academic citizen.
Promotion and tenure are based on demonstrated and continued excellence in these four evaluation categories.
