Description: PR & Communications Specialist NATURE OF WORK: Performs varied work within the Marketing Department that plays a key role in developing internal and external communications that informs and engages audiences and supports the organization goals, programs, initiatives, and communication strategy.
SUPERVISION: Work is performed under general supervision, with questionable cases referred to the manager or director team.
Depending on work assigned, reports to the Marketing Manager.
PRIMARY DUTIES: Serves as the Public Information Officer for the District and develops strong direct relationships with local media.
Primary contact for in-person and recorded interviews.
Develop and edit content for internal and external audiences across multiple communication channels.
Proofreads others’ writing and offers suggestions for improvement, as needed.
Develop communication strategy by creating, managing, and distributing news releases and other press advisories within the District, our business partners and external media organizations.
Primary contact for emergency communication to the public – in some cases, during extended hours.
Collaborates with the Event Management team to develop messaging for answering common Guest Services concerns across District venues.
Messaging will be used by multiple departments across various mediums (e.
g.
, print, electronic, in-person, etc.
).
Collaborates with Director of Entertainment and Marketing Manager to assess audience needs and implement timely, relevant, and strategic marketing and communications materials.
Builds recognition and perception of the organization’s brand internally and with the community.
Ensures content is engaging and promotes brand awareness across all digital marketing channels.
Develops strong relationships and collaborates with coworkers, teams, and leadership to deliver quality communication plans, tactics, topics, data, and collateral materials.
Manages work within tight deadlines and must be able to quickly draft and distribute messaging with little supervision.
Monitors digital media to ensure accuracy of event, building and District details and works with media partners to correct false information immediately.
Pitches and coordinates interview opportunities for events and brand engagement.
Responsible for organizing all press conferences and media days at District venues.
Work nights and weekends on occasion and holidays as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements: MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, often-changing, deadline-driven environment with minimal supervision.
Exceptional customer service skills required.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or related field required and at least two years of professional experience in print, broadcast news media, public relations, or marketing preferred.
Content creation for multiple audiences across print and digital vehicles.
Demonstrated exceptional proficiency in writing, editing, and proofreading.
Experience crafting press releases is required.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Demonstrated experience in developing, organizing, and completing projects within budget and time constraints.
Ability to maintain professional, courteous, and effective working relationships with all levels of the organization, outside business contacts and local media partners.
Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
SALARY AND STATUS: $59,000 - $87,674 Exempt
